Conclusion to the DT 990 PRO test report

With the DT 990 PRO beyerdynamic has achieved a direct hit and designed a headphone which is not suitable for recording vocals due to its open design, but excellent for control and monitoring applications.  At quiet places where the open design of the ear cups is not too dominant, listening to music is great. The workmanship is satisfying. All parts are precise and closely connected with each other. The velour ear pads caress your ears and due to the open design you do not sweat as heavy as with leather. In long sessions it is possible that the sagging coiled cable is disturbing. Above all the detail and the spatial representation of the music make listening attentively. Mids and highs are reproduced properly while the bass is quiet and warm, and are slightly overemphasised in the highs. These are almost perfect conditions for the use as a listening device in the studio. The beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO ensures transparent mixings and monitoring with a high precision – altogether a very recommendable headphone with many advantages and hardly any weaknesses.

Declan McGlynn on the DT 100 and DT 990 PRO:

DT 100:
"They might not be too pleasant to listen to, but they deliver incredibly accurate sound reproduction, warts and all."

DT 990 PRO:
"They are bright but not harsch, thick but not cloudy, warm but also sincere, and in terms of comfort they are a joy to wear for long periods."
