"The construction in generally excellent with high-quality materials used throughout and a general impression that a considerable amount of attention has been lavished on their design. The end result is a handsome and fairly understated pair of headphones and something that is comfortable to wear for extended periods of time with the weight being perfectly distributed across the head."

[...]

"(...) the  T 90 is supplied with an excellent carry case. This is something you might actually make use of as, although the headphone is open backed, noise leakage is lower than some of the other models here and coupled with the smaller size, makes it a viable choice for use out and about as well as at home."

[...]

"The T 90 is among one of the less sensitive headphones in the test and requires more power from the Hugo to reach the test level. Having achieved this it makes a strong case for itself from the outset."

[...]

"The presentation is extremly well controlled, which means that there is absolutely no trace of noise or harshness to it.The result is a headphone that manages to handle pretty much everything that you can throw at it.
As well as this control, it also has an exceptionally spacious presentation that allows for a completely convincing performance of even very sizable recordings, while sounding suitable intimate with smaller ones. The way the T 90 handles the Kraftwerk piece in particular is comfortably the best in the group with a vast, detailed and completely immersive soundstage. The bass response is equally accomplished with plenty of power and authority to it. There is also a sense of excitement with the more-up tempo performances that makes this headphone a compelling listen."

Brilliant, but in the sense of an analytical reproduction slightly overemphasised highs, rich but nevertheless controlled and dynamic bass and a high level – the T 90 shows who is the best,  the ex-reference headphone of the same manufacturer.

I cannot express it in any other words, the beyerdynamic T90 has captured my heart and soul. At present the reproduction properties are my personal reference. The comfort when wearing is extraordinary good, only the non-detachable, smooth and sometimes intractable cable disturbs the overall impression, only slightly. Also the proportion between high and middle range band could be optimised a small nuance. Even though, the retail price of approx. 450 Euro is more than justified, because the T 90 definitely is in another league than the most dynamic headphones I know and therefore, it is absolutely suitable for professional applications such as editing, mix and mastering.

At a price of around 500 Euro the T 90 is a little bit expensive, but its sound … my goodness! The T 90 is not only a little bit better than the mentioned other tested products, it’s the best of them.

All these ingredients resulted in a high performance acoustical power plant nearly free from distortion. Due to this optimised design, the efficiency of the driver technology has considerably improved. The consequence: The T 90 develops, probably because of this, an audible more precise reproduction, sounds considerably louder, plays with ease and therefore clearly better.

[...]

It always sounds most melodiously. [...] The Tesla sound appears vivid and lively, but never twisted – a fun headphone.

[...]

Its bass boost gives orchestra timpanis a richness which makes them sound more precise and compact. The overall acoustic sound has more weight and volume. Furthermore, the rapidly oscillating diaphragm creates a clear perceptible bass scaling. Musicians are standing on a stage, which is rather small; but instruments and voices are separated and can clearly be localised.  Those who like listening to rock music will benefit from this (...). Those who enjoy classical music will be glad about the precise, almost overabundance reproduced by the Berlin Philharmonic orchestra (...)."

[...]

Now I can say with a clear conscience that the T 90 especially loves voices: be it the richness of two octaves to the f3 from Roberta Peters (...), be it Petterson Hood‘s (...) intimate, melancholic murmur, be it the highly dynamic in “blue notes” (...) – finest outline and vibrant power of the Tesla headphone transmit each nuance and create a lively directness, searching its match.

"The full-size Beyerdynamic T90 uses advanced Tesla magnetic flux technology to produce remarkably accurate sound and its open-back design creates more spacious stereo imaging. The T90 is also very comfortable to wear for long periods and measures up well against headphones that cost $1,000."

[...]

"The Bottom Line: Sure, the Beyerdynamic T90 is pricey, but no other less-expensive headphone can match the T90's combination of comfort, sound, and build quality."

It is comfortable to wear, does not press too hard and does not fit loosely on the head. The T 90 reproduces deep sounds discreetly and very precisely. The mids and highs are also very fine with a beautiful voice reproduction.

"You love it or hate it but Beyerdynamic often uses the same basic design in their headphones with the metal ear cup holder/headband. Personally I absolutely love that design."

[...]

"The T 90 overall has a very good detail retrieval, (...) one of the best I’ve heard so far. Left-right balance and 3-dimensionality are simply incredible, just like the huge sound stage. The presentation in general is rather airy and there is a lot of space between the instruments. The T 90 is a tight sounding headphone that’s not coloring the sound, well maybe just very slightly but you get a very clear and realistic presentation no matter what genre you’re listening to."

[...]

"They even have this slight touch of warmth and the detail level is top. The T 90’s bass is very tight and has reasonable impact/body. Bass detail and layering are very good and bass goes really deep. It’s isn’t the most impactful bass (...) but it’s perfectly in line with the mids. The highs are also very detailed and layered but not harsh sounding at all. The treble however does “jump out” more than the rest, it’s just that bit less linear but still sounding great."

[...]

"Having the T 90 around for these last couple of weeks have made me appreciate Beyerdynamic even more. The T 90 to me really is an awesome headphone and an ideal mix between detail and fun. Call me a fan."

"The performance track record for the T90 is almost faultless and for the price it commands, it had to be. Overall characteristics of the headphones can be classified as being balanced and vibrant. All the different bands of frequencies from the spectrum of sound are beautifully rendered and the sum of their impact is relayed with great fidelity. We were wowed by the way the product delivered warm yet bright highs on Adele’s Melt My Heart To Stone. Attention to detail and good transient response, along with an excellent soundstage, made us feel like we were sitting in the hall for live Hotel California track. Had the T90 delivered just the slightest smidgen of extra bass impact, it might just have walked away with the perfect audio performance score."

The T 90 is the latest addition to the headphone family. As a first model with open design it shall provide a natural listening sensation. The impression of being acoustically isolated from the outside world will not be the case when putting the headphone on. The workmanship of the T 90 is beyond all doubt. Massive, precisely crafted stainless steel yokes give not only a noble look, but also a robust stature. With regard to the headband and the ear pads, the manufacturer prefers a soft microfiber material which ensures excellent comfort in combination with a weight of 330 g.

The piano in Aaron Parks’ "Riddle me this" (from "Invisible Cinema") was impressive with an open and natural sound. The bass also reached the lower depths and remained defined and dynamic. Even at high levels the sound from the T 90 remained unchanged.

Translated from the original German article

On the whole the beyerdynamic T 90 is impressive with a modern design, which nevertheless appears plain and timeless. The materials used are all of a high quality: Swiss tulle to cover the ear cups, properly manufactured aluminium parts and yokes as well as very soft velours pads for the ears and head do not only give an excellent look and feel, but also ensure a perfect comfort of wearing. Even when listening for several hours our tester had no sensation of pressure or pain.

The sound of the T 90 is also satisfying. The tuning has a somewhat amusing shape of a bathtub, without being unnatural or artificial. The treble has a clear boost, but does not tend to hissing sounds. [...] The middle sounds are more discreet compared to the highs, but even though uncoloured. The bass is powerful, but nevertheless cultivated.
All in all with the T 90 beyerdynamic supplies an excellent headphone, which can combine the balance between analytical and amusing sound.

Due to the thoroughly positive impression, we give the beyerdynamic T 90 our Excellent Hardware Award."

It is a sound preference! beyerdynamic simply builds headphones that sound fantastic and the T 90 is no exception. It succeeds in achieving the same position as the T 1 in my personal ranking list. This means co-reference! The T 1 remains the master regarding naturalness, integrity and truthfulness. The T 90, however, is convincing with its extraordinary attractive and smooth character. Somehow, it is …. more female!

[...]

While the T 1 shines with a rather uncompromising logic à la Spock, the T 90 appears sexier like Angelina Jolie or Scarlett Johansson.
